The SE Training Pathway
Three levels.
One quiet revolution.
The Somatic Experiencing® curriculum is a comprehensive professional training in body-based trauma resolution, delivered over three sequential levels of immersive, in-person learning.
01The Three Levels
A complete grounding in the biophysiology of trauma.
Each level builds on the last. Together, they produce practitioners who can meet trauma — and the people inside it — with skill, presence, and clinical precision.
The Somatic Experiencing professional training consists of six six-day training modules across the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Some curriculum levels are combined within one module, for example Beginner I/II. Please refer to the individual cohort schedule for specific dates and details.
Beginner Level Training
Develop foundational knowledge and skills in the SE biophysiological model for the resolution of trauma. This curriculum level is taught within the six-module professional pathway.
- Understand how traumatic stress affects the autonomic nervous system
- Learn and practice tracking sensations to access ANS responses
- Explore the neurophysiology of threat — fight, flight, freeze, recovery
- Build skills to support completion of survival responses
- Apply titration techniques for safe trauma integration
- Gain insight into Polyvagal Theory and the SIBAM model
Intermediate Level Training
Work with the different categories of trauma as addressed in the SE model, with specific approaches and interventions for each. This curriculum level is taught within the six-module professional pathway.
- Global High Intensity Activation (GHIA): pre- and peri-natal, early trauma
- High Impact / Failure of Physical Defense: falls, accidents, TBI
- Inescapable Attack: assault, sexual abuse, inhibited escape
- Physical Injury: surgery, burns, accident-related injury
- Natural and Man-Made Disasters, Horror
- Emotional Trauma: severe neglect, loss, and ongoing abuse
Advanced Level Training
Work with complex trauma and syndromes. Expand the use of touch in SE practice as the six-module professional pathway advances.
- Importance of stabilization when working with complex trauma
- The SE concept of 'coherence' in complex trauma work
- Refine touch skills for containment and coherence
- Polyvagal Theory as it relates to syndromes
- Refine titration and pendulation with sensitive clients
- Work with the eyes, joints, body diaphragms, and viscera

Learning to stay present through change.
The SE pathway develops the steadiness, perception, and practical skill to meet complexity without losing connection.

What is Somatic Experiencing®?
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to resolving trauma and stress. Training develops the ability to work with sensation, nervous-system responses, and gradual integration.
Who is the professional training for?
The pathway is designed for mental-health, healthcare, education, bodywork, and other helping professionals. Applications are reviewed to confirm fit and scope of practice.
How is the pathway structured?
The Somatic Experiencing professional training consists of six six-day training modules across the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Are the modules in person or online?
The professional modules are immersive, live trainings. Information sessions may be offered online. The format for each cohort is confirmed before enrolment.
Where are trainings offered?
SEAI is headquartered in California. Current professional training locations are Sarajevo in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Zagreb in Croatia. Available cohorts and venues are confirmed in the schedule.
What languages are used?
Language and translation arrangements depend on the location and cohort. Contact SEAI for the confirmed teaching and interpretation languages before applying.
What sessions and supervision are required?
The pathway includes personal sessions and supervision credits arranged with approved providers and paid separately. Current requirements are confirmed with each cohort.
What does training cost?
Tuition, instalment options, and cancellation terms vary by cohort. Request the current cohort information pack before making a commitment.
Are scholarships available?
SEAI’s nonprofit mission includes widening access. Scholarship availability and eligibility vary by cohort and are reviewed through a separate application.
Does completing the pathway confer SEP status?
Certification requirements are governed by the relevant Somatic Experiencing® standards and may include training, personal sessions, supervision, and other current requirements. SEAI will confirm the applicable pathway for your cohort.
Clinical Supervisions
20 credits, minimum.
Individual sessions and supervisions are arranged directly with approved providers and are paid separately from the training.
